At the band’s rehearsal on July 25, 2019, Robert rehearsed a Strauss Waltz, and subsequently announced his retirement  as an Assistant Conductor.  Immediately following his announcement, by unanimous Callanwolde Concert Band Board of Directors approval, he was bestowed with the honor as Assistant Conductor Emeritus.

During his over forty-one years with the band, Bob served in many leadership roles including Assistant Conductor, Assistant Treasurer, Band Archivist and Historian, and Performance Venue Coordinator – to name only a few.

A genuine supporter of the musical arts throughout his lifetime, Bob grew up in Boston, Massachusetts and became interested in music while a student at Boston Latin School, when he heard career talks by distinguished alumni, Leonard Bernstein and Arthur Fiedler. His interest peaked after attending Boston Pops concerts.  He attended Bowdoin College, joining the glee club and performing as a percussionist in the band. As a senior, he served as student conductor for the Bowdoin College Band. While attending Wharton Graduate School (University of Pennsylvania) he was choir director and organist for the Newman Club.

From 1964 to 1979 he was a member of the chorus and orchestra of the Philharmonic Society of Arlington in Arlington, Massachusetts. Bob moved to Atlanta in 1979, performing as tympanist/percussionist with the North DeKalb Symphony Orchestra, DeKalb Symphony Orchestra, and Atlanta Community Orchestra. He is a past member of the DeKalb Choral Guild, the All Saints Catholic Church Choir and the All Saints Catholic Church Schola Cantorum – also serving as Assistant Conductor for the latter two ensembles.
